[CEI] Chrome Extension Ideas #198
ideas for productivity, 2FA, Medicos, and Shortcuts
Welcome to the twenty-nine new people joining this week! Feel free to reply to this email and let me know how I can make this newsletter more useful.
Last week’s premium ideas were pure builder gold:
One zapped annoying UI clutter from a niche site users hate
The other fixed the dumbest part of dev “productivity” tracking, by measuring what you actually do, not how fast you type.
These kinds of ideas aren’t guesses, they’re pulled straight from pain points people are already ranting about.

Idea #1
A Chrome extension that tracks your 10,000-hour mastery journey, without you lifting a finger
I’m prototyping a system that takes a screenshot of my desktop every minute, and then passes it through a local VLM for commentary, in order to make a log for downstream use.
What should I try to prompt it with?
What downstream applications should I imagine it with? You’re trying to master a skill. But you don’t actually know how much time you’re putting in. This extension fixes that.
It silently logs your browser and desktop activity, screenshots, windows open, what you’re doing, and uses a local vision-language model to figure out what skill you’re working on.
No timers. No spreadsheets. No forgetting to log stuff. You just do the work. It tracks everything. Then it shows you your real-time progress toward mastery.
Optional prompts like:
“What am I actually learning today?” or “How deep was this session?”

SAAS/PRODUCT IDEA:
Scrape all Chrome extensions (easy - I've done it)
Run them through the DataForSEO API to get traffic + keywords
Vibe code a dashboard to filter extensions
Sell access to it
No other extension directory has SEO data...
Idea #2
A Chrome extension that auto-fills 2FA codes from your email
Someone PLEASE build a tool that reads login confirmation codes out of my email and fills them in automatically. I hate this. You know the drill.
You’re logging in. The site asks for a 6-digit code. You switch tabs, open Gmail, wait for the email, scan the message, copy the code, go back, paste it, hit submit…
What if a Chrome extension just handled that for you?
This idea connects to your inbox (securely), spots 2FA codes in real time, and auto-fills them into the right field, without you lifting a finger.
It’s like Apple’s “auto-fill from text”, but in your browser, and for email codes. Gmail, Outlook, doesn’t matter. You stay in flow. No flipping tabs. No missed logins. No delays.
